This blog is not going to be as funny as Luke's was...

...So let's all set some realistic expectations starting now.  We used to have this great blog when Maddie was a baby, and then...she wasn't a baby anymore.  So we didn't really have time to blog.  THEN I got pregnant again and slowly drove Luke to madness while eating a wide variety of donuts and pastries (and the occasional cherry Slurpee) over a very, very long 9 months, so we still didn't have a blog.  Then our Lucy showed up and cried for a few months, so we just couldn't find the time to write between the diapers, crying, sleep deprivation, and some delightful new behaviors that Maddie picked up upon the arrival of her new sister.  But now I've cut my hours at work and have at least 45 minutes of free time each week, so I figured I had better start some kind of record of how our girls are growing up.

I have to give credit where credit is due...my cousin Jessica Johnston has this great blog that she is just SO good about keeping up with, and I love to read it.  Mainly because she admits to aberrant maternal behaviors like leaving your two year old downstairs watching Dora while you feed the baby, something that our pediatricians would probably call Child Services over if they knew.  Next thing on my list after writing this blog is finding a pediatrician who actually has children of her own, so I don't find myself listening to things like, "You should never leave your two year old alone, even for a second.  And make sure she only watches 30 minutes of TV a day."  But I digress.  Anyways, I myself frequently ignore my own kids to read Jessica's blog.  And I'm always feeling like, "Oh my God.  My kids don't have a blog.  Jesus.  What a I doing with myself?"  I guess probably ignoring the kids is worse than not having a blog, but really let's not nitpick.

So...TODAY IS THE DAY!  I'm not really sure in what direction this blog is going to go.  I mean it to be a memoir of my beautiful kids, my very understanding and very funny husband, and my outstanding maternal skills.  But it might just end up being a record of me complaining about how Lucy wakes up at 4am most days screaming like a banshee, grinning ear to ear and ready to play, or about how Maddie wakes up at least once a night screaming indignantly that she does not have the desired collection of stuffed animals in her crib.  I might even start bitching about work on here.  We'll just have to see how it goes.  I'm going to go and try to figure out how to upload photos, so I'll post some pics in the next...two weeks.  Let's start slow.

  1. Love it, Mer! When I started my blog I kinda though it was cheesy and doubted if anyone would read it. And while it may still be cheesy at times, it's fun and I hope the kids will appreciate it someday. And the best is when I get emails from Grandma about how much she loves it and how she feels like she really knows Bridget and Ross through the blog. So, even if she were the only person reading, it'd be worth it! Be sure to send her your link!
